Who We Are
We are a group of diverse individuals who want to foster dialogue and work towards climate action, civic awareness, and a circular economy in the local communities of Karnataka. We believe that weaving sustainability into the very fabric of development is the key to building a green and livable future. Making climate action accessible and achievable for second and third tier cities can spark significant community-wide social change that is meaningful.
With its expertise in human-centred design, BAERU COLLECTIVE is uniquely positioned to utilise the benefits of Design Thinking to process local problems and craft solutions which are impactful. It is the team’s collective effort to research, observe, and work with the communities we wish to help, keeping their lived experience at the forefront of our solutions.
हम कर्नाटक के स्थानीय समुदायों में संवाद को बढ़ावा और स्थिरता, नागरिक कार्य और सामाजिक जागरूकता के लिए काम करना चाहते हैं। एक डिजाइन एजेंसी के रूप में हमारा मानना है कि TIP स्थानीय समस्याओ के शिल्प समाधान की प्रक्रिया को प्रभावी तरीके से करने में एक विशिष्ट स्थान रखता है । हम व्यक्तिविशेष की कार्यशक्ति पर विश्वास करते हैं जो सभी समुदायों और अंततः समाज को बदल सकते हैं। इसीलिए हम भारत के युवाओं की ऊर्जा और उत्साह को केंद्रित करना चाहते हैं, ताकि वे नए सिरे से समस्याओं को देख सकें और साथ मिलकर काम कर सकें, जो आपके और हमारे समुदाय के लिए काम करें।
ನಾವು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಸಮುದಾಯಗಳ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆ, ನಾಗರೀಕ ಜೀವನಕ್ರಮ ಮತ್ತು ನಾಗರಿಕರ ಜಾಗರೂಕತೆಗಾಗಿ ಸಂಭಾಷಣೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಯನ್ನು ಬಯಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ವಿನ್ಯಾಸಗಳ ಸಮೂಹ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಂತೆ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಸ್ಕರಿಸಿ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಿಹಾರವನ್ನು ರೂಪುಗೊಳಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ TIPಅನ್ನು ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ರೂಪಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ನಾವು ನಂಬುತ್ತೇವೆ... ಸಮಾಜವನ್ನು ಉತ್ತಮ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬದಲಾಯಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ನಾಗರೀಕರ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮುದಾಯ ಸಂಘಗಳು ಒಟ್ಟಾಗಿ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ನಿರ್ಧಾರದಿಂದ ಒಳಿತಾಗುವುದೆಂದು ನಂಬಿರುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿಯೇ ಭಾರತದ ಯುವಜನತೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಮುದಾಯಗಳ ಜೊತೆಗೂಡಿ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಸ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಕೋನಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಪರಿಹರಿಸಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to leverage design, technology, lingual and regional context to achieve climate and gender justice. We are achieving this through a two-pronged approach of climate education and economic empowerment of rural women. Our programs are action-driven and we give local communities - particularly, women and youth - the platform and voice to impact their world.
Above all, we’re here to listen to what the communities have to say. Taking their experiences into account is paramount while creating solutions which can help them ultimately move towards a circular economy. We believe in thinking past constraints and crafting solutions that are situated in the right context and have the best chance of actually working.

- Flagship Programs
The quantity and quality of waste generated needs to be managed at the community level. As the primary decision-makers of the household, women from local communities are expected to fulfill most of the domestic needs of their families. We train these women to manage waste better through techniques of segregation of reusable waste from non-reusable waste. Waste that can be reused is recycled or upcycled, and the women are encouraged to educate their communities on ways to reduce and replace items that generate toxic and unsustainable waste.
We work primarily with these women to make a sustainable lifestyle more accessible to them and instill community-wide change. This helps the movement gain momentum by empowering women and bolstering their position as decision makers, and also increasing their employability and therefore financial security.
This ongoing initiative focuses on issues pertaining to civic action, waste management and climate change which are affecting communities in Coastal Karnataka, Chikmagalur and Mangalore. Our attempt is to enable the community to take action, before irreparable damage is done to the delicate and diverse ecosystem along India’s western coastline and the western ghats.
Our flagship program, Yuva Prerana was held in March 2019, and was a powerful call to action to students to take action and recognize issues affecting their communities. Our panel of 4 eminent speakers were: Justice Santosh Hegde, Former Supreme Court Justice; Laxman B Nimbargi, Superintendent of Udupi Police; Jayaprakash Hegde, former Member of Parliament; Professor Prashant Neelavara, Professor of Political Science.
Through our Eco-Schools Waste Education Program, we have also been conducting workshops and classes for school children on waste management, since 2019. Our aim is to introduce children to the practices of waste management from a young age, so it becomes a part of their developmental processes. If these behaviours and actions become second nature, they will easily incorporate them into their daily lives.
